Re: Equipment Fee & Social Tickets
The WEFH organization continues to grow rapidly, with the total number of registered players increasing from 225 to 275 over the last three hockey seasons. This increased enrollment has resulted in an expanded number of teams and roster sizes at all levels and age groups. As an organization, we currently field 18 teams (3 AA, 7 A1, 8 A2), making us the largest female hockey organization in the province.
Equipment Fee - $50 per player
In 2013-14, WEFH fielded many questions and concerns regarding the condition of both Stars and Saints game jerseys. In most instances, players were wearing jerseys that were many years old and in poor condition, or teams were provided mismatched sets of jerseys (with teams receiving multiple styles for their home or away jerseys). After further investigation, it was clear that no new Stars jerseys had been purchased by the organization for several years. In 2014-15, the total cost of purchasing new home and away game jerseys for all Stars and Saints teams was approximately $45,000. This year, we have purchased another $10,000 in jerseys due to continued growth.
The $50.00/player equipment fee for all rostered players was implemented last year. This fee is used to fund the purchase of new game jerseys (now and in the future). This fee will be reviewed on an annual basis by the WEFH executive.
Social Tickets - $30 per family
The WEFH regretfully announces that we will not be running a Stars Cup during the 2015-16 season. The dates to run a post playoff tournament conflict with the Easter weekend. The Hockey Winnipeg season ends on March 24, 2016 and Easter weekend is immediately after. This tournament raised approximately $20,000 in net revenue every year. This revenue is combined with regular hockey registration fees to cover the following costs:
1. Ice for all regular season and playoff games
2. Refs/time keepers for all regular season and playoff games
3. League insurance costs
4. Practice ice for all player evaluations (only the Stars program)
5. Independent evaluators for all A level team selections
6. Home/away game socks and helmet decals for all Stars/Saints players
7. Criminal Record Checks and child abuse registry checks for all coaches and team personnel
8. Goalie development clinics throughout year.
9. Goalie equipment subsidy for all 1st year goalies
In lieu of the Stars Cup this year and in order to make up for this lost revenue, the WEFH Executive has decided to host a SOCIAL at Southdale Community Centre on Friday, November 13th, 2015. MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
There is a mandatory purchase of 2 tickets ($15 each) per family. There will also be a team requirement to provide a silent auction prize (similar to the Stars Cup expectations in previous years). This will be a great opportunity for the Winnipeg East Female Hockey community to get together and have some fun. More details to come!
Stars gear clothing fittings will be held @ Notre Dame MPR (multi purpose room, building next to rink)

Financial Summary 2014 – 15 Season
Player Registration: A total of 265 girls registered to play hockey with WEFH Saints and Stars teams during the 2014-15 season (22 more than last year). In total, WEFH hosted 13 Stars teams at the A1 and A2 levels, and 1 Saints AA team at each of the pee wee, bantam and midget levels.
Stars Cup Hockey Tournament: This year’s Stars Cup took place the week-end of March 27 -29, 2015. It involved 55 teams competing at the A1/A2 level across novice, atom, peewee and bantam age groups. This year’s tournament was an amazing success, generating more than $20,000 in net revenue for the organization. A special thanks to Brent Wagner (tournament chairperson) and all parents who organized and participated as volunteers in this year’s event. IT IS GRERATLY APPRECIATED!!
50/50 Raffle: This year each player was not required to sell 1 book of 50/50 raffle tickets. Instead, 50/50 raffle tickets were simply sold by volunteers at the Stars Cup Tournament. Revenue from this year’s raffle netted the organization $3232.50.
Total Revenues & Expenses: For the 2014-15 season, the organization ran a small deficit of just over $3000.00. WEFH had numerous large expenditures during the year, including the purchase of new home and away game jerseys for all Stars/Saints teams (which cost close to $47,000.00). Other main expenditures for the year that are not covered by player registration fees included:
* Ice rental and independent evaluators for all A level team formation.
* Purchase of home and away socks for all players.
* Helmet decals for all players.
* CRC and child abuse registry checks for all coaches and managers.
* Goalie development support
* Purchase of goalie equipment for all 4 novice teams.
End of Season Account Balance: At the end of the 2014-15 season, WEFH will have approximately $28,000 in its bank account. These funds will once again be used to pre-book ice for next year’s preseason hockey camps and player evaluation/team selection, pay for the hiring of independent player evaluators for A level team selection, as well as order home and away game socks for all teams.
